Bamboohill headed for Woodgate

Isis Town and Country - - NEWS -

A BAMBOO plantation will be established near Woodgate Beach to take advantage of recycled water, following a council decision at an ordinary meeting this week.

Water and wastewater spokesman Alan Bush said the council had called for tenders for the purchase of the recycled water from Woodgate wastewater treatment plant late last year and Bamboohill Australia was the only applicant to submit a tender by the closing date.

“The company will lease 35ha of the Woodgate wastewater treatment site, which has been awarded on an initial 10-year term,” Cr Bush said.

“The proposal put forward by Bamboohill has the potential to use all of the recycled water currently produced by the plant.”

He said this agreement represented a revenue stream for the treatment facility, which would help to keep the cost of the service at a minimum.

“The supply of water and wastewater comes at a cost to council, and ultimately ratepayers, so anything we can do to offset that is a good thing,” he said.
