WHAT started 18 years ago in the living room of Jan Kime’s home has turned into lifelong friendships for some former Little Vegemites.

And as those friendships stay strong, Mrs Kime said new friendships were being formed as the Little Vegemites Playgroup remains the bread and butter of Childers.

The weekly playgroup is a concept Mrs Kime has come to know well as her role as a foster carer sees her maintain her long-time membership of the group.

Mrs Kime is an avid believer in the role of playgroups and stressed the importance of playgroup for both the child and the parent.

“It’s so important for preschoolers and babies to learn how to socialise and play alongside one another,” she said.

“And for the mothers, a lot come along who have just moved into to the area. It’s lovely to see those friendships form.

“We try and make it inclusive.

“Anyone who wants to come along can.“

For a group that meets for just two hours a week, they sure know how to fit a lot in.

From free play to craft, snack time and outdoor play, it sure is all about happy Little Vegemites in Childers.
