Man on rape charge
22-year-old to face court after alleged attack at hostel:
A MAN has been charged over an alleged rape of a woman at a Childers backpacker hostel on the weekend.
Bundaberg Police CIB Detective Sergeant David Tucker said the man accused was a 22-year-old Samoan national who had now been charged with four offences relating to the incident.
Det Sgt Tucker said the alleged rape happened in the early hours of Sunday morning and said it was believed the alleged attacker was known to the victim.
“It has occurred at a backpackers’ hostel,” he said.
Det Sgt Tucker returned to Bundaberg late on Sunday after charging the man with four offences in regards to the alleged rape.
“A Samoan national has been charged with one count of enter a dwelling with intent, one count of assault with intent to rape, one count of depravation of liberty, one count of rape and one count of sexual assault,” Det Sgt Tucker said.
The man appeared in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday morning. He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody for a bail hearing scheduled for tomorrow.
