Once Upon A Time In Punchbowl

Isis Town and Country - - Television -

Thursday, SBS One, 8.30pm

SBS takes a brief break from the World Cup to deliver this four-part documentary series about Lebanese-Australians and their adjustment to life in Australia. The story begins tonight in the 1970s. Desperate to escape war, build a better life for themselves and ensure a better future for their families, Lebanese migrants flooded to Australia. But it wasn’t easy, with their cultural differences – many were also Muslim – making it difficult to adjust and find acceptance in their new country. Interviews with community leaders, police and families, including the family of Nemat Khaboutli (above), reveal the story of a proud community that has endured much difficulty.
