THE PREDICTED rain arrived just as most players had completed nine holes.

The steadily falling rain convinced most male competitors to end their round with a small number of hardy players completing the 18 holes.

The small numbers left were grouped into one Division for the single stableford competition. Will Martell had easily the best round in the tough conditions, scoring 39 points to win from Dave Robinson on 36, with rundowns to John Hinton, Mark McAulay and Clinton Dowling. Brett Martell had the best nine hole score of 18 points.

Kev Savage was a mere 0.07m from the hole with his pinshot on 1&10 – almost a hole in one, while John Hinton was the only pinshot winner on 4&13, winning the B Division shot.

On Saturday members again compete in a single stableford competition for a club trophy. On the following Saturday (June 28), members have an opportunity to support Blake Dowling on his trip to Melbourne to compete in the Aaron Baddeley Invitation event. As this is the scheduled combined Isis/Social Golf Club day, we have programmed a two-person Ambrose event followed by a barbecue supper.

SPECIAL NOTE: The Foursomes Championships have been changed from Saturday, June 28, to Sunday, June 29 – hit-off at 11am. See Flyer at Clubhouse for details. Women THURSDAY players enjoyed perfect weather for their single stableford competition won by Cecily Fay with 32 points, from JoanWright on 31. Vicki McAulay won the rundown on a countback from Rose Cochrane.

In spite of persistent rain, most of the women competitors in the single stableford competition persevered, in contrast to their male counterparts. They deserve to be congratulated.

Robyn Robinson led the way with 37 points from Vicki McAulay on 35, with rundowns to Helen Ricciardi and Cecily Fay. Sophie Martell won the best nine with 17 points, while Fiona Dowling put her second shot only 0.31m from the pin to win the ladies’ approach.

This Saturday we again play a single stableford competition for a club trophy. Read the men’s notes for information about the following Saturday (June 28)

A reminder: The first round of the Nash Bowl match play is to be played on or before June 20 by the following players: Helen Ricciardi v Fiona Dowling; Cynthia Draper v Val Plath; JoanWright v Cecily Fay; Robyn Robinson v Joy Cartner.

SPECIAL NOTE: The Foursomes Championships have been changed from Saturday, June 28 to Sunday, June 29 – hit-off at 11am. See flyer at Clubhouse for details. Juniors LAST weekend was the June monthly medal with some good scores recorded in all grades.

In the six hole event Cooper Rehbein had a net score of 19, 5 shots under his handicap to win from Ryan Blinco with a net of 23. In the 9 hole division Wesley Hinton had a nice round of 65 to take out the medal in this division. The 13 hole event was closely contested with Christian Fredriksen winning with a net 51 from Zane Fitzgerald with a net 56.

This week will be a Chip and Putt competition with all play starting at 7.30am. See you there.

Isis Vets

ON TUESDAY members played a four ball best ball stableford, the first in quite a while.

Rusty Usmar was in great touch (again!) and together with Bob Carne compiled 46 points, to win on a countback from RayWalker and Gary Gretton. Dave Robinson and Mark McAulay recorded 44 points to be second runners-up, while Craig Reynolds and Bill Herring won the best nine holes in a countback with 24 points.

Cecily Fay was 0.13m from the hole to win the ladies’ approach, while Kev Savage was a little further away to win the men’s approach.

Chook Run winners were: Val Plath, Keith Rule and Rusty Usmar (31 net), Kev Denham (32) and Ed Connell (33).

Next Tuesday be prepared for an early start at 9am for an 18 hole single stableford competition with visitors from Maryborough here for a return match – currently shield holders but this could change come next Tuesday.

We hope players bring a plate for an after game snack. Childers Social A SMALL field of 15 players teed off today with most people probable scared off by the inclement weather which was a shame as the sun broke through and it was quite pleas ant on the course.

The winner today and finally feeling the wrath of the handicapper was Bill Kirchhof on 20 Stableford Points and losing 2.5 off his handicap for his troubles. Len Stallard was second also with 20 but beaten in the countback but still managing to lose 2.0 and Chris Fitzsimons also on 20 and losing 1.5 points.

The winners list for the field was very sad with only two people able to take out the prizes, they being Ed Connell for the B-grade Approach on the 10th and the B-grade Longest Drive and Bill Long taking out the Men’s Approach on the 15th.

Next week will be a Two Person Ambrose over 18 holes, pick your partners. This game is the Sponsors Thank You Day where those Sponsors who have supported the Club are invited to participate, compliments of the Social Club. There will be the usual $2 brekkie and a barbecue after the game for one and all. Tee off time is 8am as usual.

The new club shirts have been ordered and the captain has a list for those wishing to purchase the blue bucket hats with the logo on it. The price per hat will be about $12 and they are fully adjustable to fit.

On the following weekend the Isis Golf Club has invited the Childers District Social Golf Club to participate in a fund raising game on June 28, teeing off at 12.30pm. All proceeds will go to sponsoring one of our juniors to an invitational in Melbourne, a honour that is well deserved as the player now hits of zero handicap at our grounds and is hoping to turn professional. I encourage all the members of the social club to go along and make this day a success and also play against the Isis Golf Club in a Two Person Ambrose for the honour and bragging rights.

Check out the Sponsors Special Page on the club website at www.childerssocial for some great bargains in golf carts from Bill. Limited numbers are available. Have a great Week and see you on Saturday.
