Rape ac­cused held

A SAMOAN na­tional ac­cused of rap­ing a woman in a Childers back­pack­ers hos­tel has been re­manded in cus­tody. Ivan Galuega, 22, is fac­ing two charges of rape, one of as­sault with in­tent to com­mit rape, one of de­pri­va­tion of lib­erty, one of sex­ual as­sault and one of en­ter­ing a dwelling with un­law­ful in­tent. Galuega faced Bund­aberg Mag­is­trates Court last Fri­day and his case was ad­journed to Au­gust 7. No ev­i­dence con­cern­ing the al­leged of­fences was of­fered in court dur­ing the brief men­tion. The al­leged rape hap­pened in the early hours of Sun­day, June 15. Galuega and the vic­tim were be­lieved to have been known to each other. Galuega was ar­rested by mem­bers of the Bund­aberg Po­lice CIB that same day.
