Rape accused held
A SAMOAN national accused of raping a woman in a Childers backpackers hostel has been remanded in custody. Ivan Galuega, 22, is facing two charges of rape, one of assault with intent to commit rape, one of deprivation of liberty, one of sexual assault and one of entering a dwelling with unlawful intent. Galuega faced Bundaberg Magistrates Court last Friday and his case was adjourned to August 7. No evidence concerning the alleged offences was offered in court during the brief mention. The alleged rape happened in the early hours of Sunday, June 15. Galuega and the victim were believed to have been known to each other. Galuega was arrested by members of the Bundaberg Police CIB that same day.
