Fruitful walk to see bush tucker

Isis Town and Country - - LIFE -

ISIS Bushcare members were recently treated to a bush tucker and exotic fruit orchard walk at the Isis Winery

The walk was led by Ray Johnson from Gin Gin Landcare, who was both knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

Bushcare spokeswoman Margie Zea said members enjoyed an entertaining and informative walk through the bush tucker garden.

“Ray gave loads of information on what the trees were, how they are used as bush tucker, what conditions the trees grow in, how to propagate the trees and more,” she said.

“Later we walked through the exotic fruit orchard, which was also amazing and also jam-packed full of more interesting information.”

Isis Bushcare member Bettjoy Alley was thrilled to attend on the day and said the walk was a real eye-opener.

“I find Ray enormously knowledgeable.

“He is great at answering questions and he has an excellent manner, fielding comments from other knowledgeable members easily,” she said.

“He knows nearly every species and every tree, what the fruit tastes like, when it is available, whether it is easy to grow or not, where it was from.”
