Childers hosts Miss Showgirl event
A 19-YEAR-OLD Bachelor of Laws student Emma Crozier was chosen as the Central Queensland Sub Chamber’s regional winner of the Miss Showgirl competition judged in Childers on Saturday night.
The event attracted 60 guests with supporters from as far afield as Mackay attending the regional judging to select a Miss Showgirl and Rural Ambassador representative to vie for the state title in Brisbane next month.
Former state Miss Showgirl winner Jess Robinson, a Childers teacher, organised the event on behalf of the Childers and District PA & I Society.
Ms Robinson said the event not only showcased talent for the regional final but had provided the opportunity to reveal some of the great attractions in and around Childers to a new audience.
“I think people were genuinely excited by what they saw when we took all finalists, families and friends on a tour of the Childers area on Saturday,” she said.
“Flying High Bird Sanctuary, Snakes Downunder, Avocado Acres, Paragon Theatre, Old Pharmacy and Vintner’s Secret were all on the tour itinerary.
“The local accommodation was booked out and our guests enjoyed the evening judging which was held in a marquee on the lawns of the Isis Club.”
Runner-up was 19-year-old law firm administrative assistant Tiffan Finn from Pioneer Valley.
A 21-year-old hairdresser and station hand Sarah Woodman was selected as the 2014 Regional Rural Ambassador winner.
Childers entrant Hannah Hutchinson spoke of the need to ensure survival of local agricultural shows.
She said the contest had provided her with an opportunity to mix with people who shared the same passion for country shows.
“I think this experience has also provided me with a little more confidence,” she said.
Both regional finals winners will travel to Brisbane to compete in the state finals judged at the Ekka.
