Crush­ing be­gins as frost hits

HAR­VEST­ING of the 2014 cane crop be­gan on Sun­day, July 13, and crush­ing be­gan at Isis Mill just be­fore 8am on Mon­day, July 14.

An Isis Mill spokesman said the com­mis­sion­ing of the fac­tory for the sea­son had gone “smoothly” with mi­nor is­sues.

“Twenty-four-hour CCS re­sults are quite pleas­ing with 13.56 units recorded,” he said.

“The team from Isis Pro­duc­tiv­ity Limited is on the ground in the frosted ar­eas ad­vis­ing grow­ers on har­vest­ing.

“Please make con­tact with them if you have con­cerns be­fore al­ter­ing har­vest­ing plans.”

He said the team was reporting sig­nif­i­cant dam­age, par­tic­u­larly in the Wallav­ille area.
