Motorists urged to slow down in school zones
AS CHILDREN head back to school this week, police are reminding motorists to drive with caution in school zone safety areas.
Childers Police Sergeant Geoff Fay warned motorists that police will be ramping up their patrols in school zones in the district over the coming weeks, with officers targeting speeding and breaches of no-standing areas.
Sgt Fay urged motorists to abide by the school zone signage speed limits which would be enforced.
“Have regard for the safety of young children.
“Please slow down and remember to be alert, as kids are often unpredictable.
“We don’t want to see an incident where a child is hurt, particularly since these accidents are easily avoidable.”
Sgt Fay said parents should take the time to educate their children in the basics of road safety.
