TERM 3 will be a busy and exciting time at Isis District State High School filled with significant opportunities for all students.
Our focus is always on learning and enhancing student literacy and numeracy abilities while offering a diverse range of opportunities to enrich experiences through our elective subjects.
Term 3 will focus on senior secondary pathway selections, Year 8 into Year 9 elective selections and continue our junior secondary journey and transition programs in preparation for our 2015 Years 7 and 8 students.
In the coming weeks we will start our Years 11 and 12 senior academic mentoring program.
This involves students meeting regularly with an appointed adult to discuss their goals, academic progress in order to develop their skills in reflection, time management and study.
There is a significant amount of research documenting the success of this program in supporting students in achieving their potential.
I believe this process we undertake is such an important aspect of our supportive school culture.
Congratulations to our Year 10 students who were engaged in a week of work experience during the last week of Term 2.
Thank you to the many businesses in Childers and the wider Isis district that placed students as this program would not occur without your ongoing support.
The feedback coming in from employers has been strong and consequently a number of our students have secured paid employment from this experience, a credit to their commitment and willingness to learn.
This week Year 10 students attended Bundaberg campuses of the Central Queensland University and TAFE Queensland as they continue their career education program.
This program enables students to make well informed decisions regarding their pathways options and senior Years 11 and 12 subjects.
On the weekend a group of Year 12 students will visit Brisbane universities to assist in making wellinformed decisions as they prepare to submit their QTAC applications.
