Scoot along to free safety day
COMMUNITY safety, as well as the safety of operators of mobility scooters or motorised wheelchairs, will be the focus of a Mobility Scooter Safety Day to be held in Childers next week.
Bundaberg Regional Council and its Building Safer Communities Action Team will host the morning of informative discussion and safety tips, with morning tea provided.
Council community services portfolio spokeswoman Councillor Judy Peters said the safety day was a great opportunity for anyone considering purchasing a mobility scooter or other motorised disability aid to gain a full understanding of their responsibilities regarding its safe operation.
“Childers Police will be on hand to discuss road rules and responsibilities regarding operating these devices on public roads or in public spaces,” she said.
“There are obvious benefits for people who can improve their mobility and outdoor access through mobility scooters, and health professionals and ambulance officers will be available to discuss health benefits.”
The Mobility Scooter Safety Day will be held at Childers Cultural Centre on Friday, August 22, from 10am. Those attending are requested to RSVP to the Childers Neighbourhood Centre by August 18.
