Run was lots of fun in the sun
CLEAR skies opened up just in time for the Park to Point Fun Run at Woodgate Beach over the weekend.
Organised by the Isis District State High School Parents and Citizens Association, the fun run is now in its second year following last year’s successful inaugural event.
Participants ran, jogged or strolled their way along the scenic beach for either two, five or 10 kilometres on Sunday morning.
Committee secretary Kymm Cole said numbers were down in comparison to last year’s event.
Mrs Cole felt the heavy downpour over the weekend played a key factor in the reduced number of entrants.
“I think a lot of people turned their alarm off the night before (due to the rain),” she said.
“Before we got up, we were thinking maybe we’ll get 40 entrants. To get 100 was good.”
She said those who did turn up thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the family-friendly event.
“People enjoyed it. It’s more relaxed... they can run or walk as far as they want to – it’s just a really fun, family day.”
Mrs Cole said the event was “well worth the effort”, with the committee raising just over $2000 for the high school.
Mrs Cole thanked all the volunteers who ensured the event ran smoothly, from those who helped look after registrations, to manning water stations and controlling traffic.
Plans are in place to organise next year’s event, which Mrs Cole says is going to be “bigger and better”.
