Rain delays crush

Isis Town and Country - - NEWS -

THROUGHPUT at the Isis Sugar Mill was reduced due to the wet weather stoppages during week six of the 2014 season.

About 31,652 tonnes of cane was processed through the mill with a weekly average CCS of 13.69 units recorded. The highest individual CCS for the week was 16.42 units recorded from a North Bundaberg grower who supplied the variety KQ228 2nd Ratoon.

About 316,834.56 of the estimated 1,020,000 tonnes available has now been processed. Land preparation for the upcoming spring plant is now in “top gear”.

The region is slowly drying out but smiles continue all round the district as growers reflect on the benefits the recent rain has provided.

Discing and marking out of blocks is now occurring.

Planting will start in the next few weeks with around 3750 hectares of fallow ground expected to be planted to cane. Growers wanting to take advantage of plot cane should have their order forms back by now.
