Orchid show ushers new season
FLOWERS are blooming, the sun is shining brightly and the birds are singing. Spring is upon us!
What better way to celebrate the change of season than to head along to the Spring Orchid Show.
Orchid growers from across the district have been busy in their shade houses priming their pretty plants just in time for the popular annual show.
Run by the Childers and District Orchid Society, the show will feature a huge variety of orchids, ferns and tropical plants and cut flowers, as well as a photography competition.
Publicity officer Fay Partridge said the society was hoping to attract a big crowd at this year’s event.
Mrs Partridge encouraged people to come along and see the beautiful floral displays.
“Come and see the colour and see the different varieties of orchids,” she said.
“It is amazing, the different varieties of orchids and different flowers, and all different shapes.
“Some of them have such a beautiful perfume.”
Judging starts today, with the show officially kicking off on Friday, from 8.30am until 4pm, and from 8.30am to 2.30pm on Saturday at the Isis Cultural Centre.
Entry is $2, with a raffle and refreshments available.
