THE Isis Cultural Centre was transformed into a sea of colour last week at the annual spring orchid show.

About 300 people flocked to the popular show for the two-day event on Friday and Saturday.

Run by the Childers and District Orchid Society, the show featured a huge variety of orchids, ferns and tropical plants and cut flowers, as well as an impressive photography competition.

President Gloria Haaksma said the event was a success, with the show proving to be popular once again this year.

“Overall we’re quite happy with our show,” she said.

“The plant sales were popular. We were flat out keeping up with that.”

“It was a very lovely day together.

“You meet a lot of nice people and we also picked up some new members.”

The winning orchid of the day was awarded to Hervey Bay grower Terri Bade, who showed a champion slipper orchid (paph Sukaakulii).

Reserve champion orchid was awarded to Bundaberg’s Keith and Fay Linderman.
