Photo angst

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion -

I AM a little perturbed at the photo in last week’s T&C that shows Snr Const Sharon Morgan posing for a photograph pointing a radar east (some say south) along Churchill St showing the Pace Car illegally parked in Churchill St. Here are the police telling us to obey the rules and regulations and they even waste a fortune driving around at the speed limit so no one will pass them in a so-called Pace Car. Must have taken a genius to figure out people don't pass marked police cars. In my opinion (and 15 years in the police dept gives me half a clue), parking the car in that position does not comply with the exemptions under section 307 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management—Road Rules) Regulation 2009 it is not reasonable to park illegally to have your photo taken. S307 States: Stopping and parking exemption for police and emergency vehicles. A provision of part 12 does not apply to the driver of a police vehicle or emergency vehicle if, in the circumstances – (a) the driver is taking reasonable care; and (b) it is reasonable that the provision should not apply. The rules are supposed to apply to all. I trust a little more thought and care is taken when using our roads in future. - John, Childers
