COL “Curl” Santacaterina has seen a lot in his 35 years with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

The auxiliary captain joined QFES in 1980, and has witnessed big changes in the service in the time since.

He attended countless fires and crashes, and led the recovery effort for the unforgettable Palace Backpackers Hostel fire in 2000.

Mr Santacaterina is in his final week in the service, with next Monday his final day before his retirement.

Turn to Pages 4-5 for a look at Mr Santacaterina’s career.
