Electric Noise

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion - By RON GRAHAM

OUR microwaves say “beep-beep-beep”,

And doorbells chime “ding-dong”.

Our notebooks, tinkling, wake from sleep; And smartphones sing a song.

Our smoke alarms chirp “battery low”;

And clocks ring in the morn.

Our cars protest at belts undone;

Or thieves they scare and warn.

Our children’s toys play nursery rhymes; Or otherwise make noise.

The Christmas tree sings carols bright For all the girls and boys. I had a dream, an awful dream, That no electric thing Could any longer make a sound

And I heard songbirds sing.
