Popular Sportsman’s lunch returns to club
KNOWN for their quick wit and general love to entertain, the Woodgate Club is set to relive some great sporting moments as it hosts its Sportsmen Lunch tomorrow from noon.
Held three times a year, these lunches have proven to be one of the club’s most popular attractions with visitors keen to get up close and personal with a sporting icon and share in some of their most memorable moments.
For this lunch, it will be a chance to hear how these sporting greats Trevor Gillmeister, Kerrod Walters and Chris “Choppy” Close took their teams to premiership status and were recognised as legends in their field and maybe even quiz MC Billy J Smith on some of his vast career highlights.
Woodgate Club marketing manager Josh Nurse said it was vital that people booked for the luncheon based on its popularity.
“It is really a fun afternoon and these lunches book out every time,” he said.
“We have been lucky to have cricketers, horse racing stars and are really excited to pass the microphone to these football greats.
“Given the way these lunches run, our guests are really able to get up close and personal with these stars and share highlights of their career and get to know the man behind the sport.
“We have added that extra something to the day through the chef really planning every aspect of the menu carefully and having a range of raffles and other activities during this time.”
The Woodgate Club really knows how to celebrate the festive season with a whole lot more excitement yet to come including Boxing Day barefoot bowls.
“Starting at 1pm, this is a big one for the year and is hotly contested by many a local bowler,” Mr Nurse said.
“We are then going to follow that up with a Las Vegas Legends Show for New Year’s Eve and then the new year will see some more of the barefoot bowls.”
