How do you say goodbye?

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion - Matthew McInerney matthew.mciner

IF YOU thought you were about to talk to somebody for the last time, what would you say?

It is a thought I don’t usually have, but with half my immediate family set to move overseas later this week it’s a thought I haven’t been able to block out.

As I write this piece I’m waiting for my phone to ring for my last conversation with them on Australian soil and I am powerless to do anything about it.

But despite the endless technology at my disposal it feels like it’s the last time I’ll have contact with them due to the shocking time zone clash. So what would you say? How do you act? Do you spend the limited time talking about what you did that day, or do you ask questions about the future?

Do you mention the fear of not seeing them again or do you keep a poker face affixed and try to laugh?

What would you do?
