More than 170 years of experience leaves Isis mill
RETIREMENT: Rodney Swan, Bill Holzberger, Ian Philpott and Merv Long retired from Isis Mill this year. All four have more than 40 years’ experience each.
HOWDO you turn a “take five” into a 30-minute yarn filled with laughs?
You bring together four men with about 170 years of combined experience for a casual chat about their time working at Isis Central Sugar Mill.
While there were plenty of stories not fit to print, and a whole lot more that weren’t even mentioned, retiring quartet Ian Philpott, Bill Holzberger, Merv Long and Rodney Swan had more than enough memories to share about their time at the mill.
All four men are esteemed members of the mill’s “40-year club”, a group of hard-working professionals who have worked at the mill for the 40 years.
Mr Holzberger, Mr Long and Mr Swan will clock off
for the last time on December 12, and Mr Philpott has already enjoyed the first week of post-mill life after finishing on November 28.
He is the most senior of the group, having spent a remarkable 46 years in various roles at the mill. The others spent between 40 and 45 years at the site.
CEO John Gorringe paid tribute to the quartet.
“It is our long-serving employees that form the backbone of our company and we value their knowledge, skills and expertise,” Mr Gorringe said.
“I would like to thank (them) for their commitment and contribution to the company over a long period, and wish them a safe and happy retirement.”
