WIDE Bay Hospital and Health Service’s (WBHHS) approach to reducing waiting times for endoscopy procedures to four weeks has been lauded at the Queensland Health Awards for Excellence. The strategy was undertaken in July last year when 4500 patients across the Wide Bay were waiting for diagnostic endoscopy procedures. The work of the WBHHS surgical services team that has improved the clinical pathway for endoscopy patients received a Director-General’s Commendation for Fostering Innovation. “The Director-General’s Commendation for Fostering Innovation is due recognition for the WBHHS surgical services team’s achievement of the lowest endoscopy waiting times in Australia,” Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service chief executive Adrian Pennington said.
