Centrelink office a target in ‘rampage’
A 24-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with wilful damage after he allegedly went on a violent rampage in the Childers Centrelink office in Churchill St.
Childers Senior Constable Grant Klaassen said police were called to the incident at about 11.15am on Tuesday after the man allegedly became aggressive towards a female staff member.
“He was asked to leave and allegedly smashed a speaker inside the office,” he said.
Sen Const Klaassen said the man continued to act aggressively, allegedly using his fist to smash the glass window and door at the front of the Centrelink office, before leaving the scene.
“Police located the man a short time later and he was charged with wilful damage,” he said.
Sen Const Klaassen said the incident forced the Centrelink office to close for the remainder of the day.
The man was arrested and is scheduled to appear in Childers Magistrates Court tomorrow.
