NEW laws to bet­ter pro­tect Bund­aberg and Bur­nett fire­fight­ers will be drafted in con­sul­ta­tion with var­i­ous em­ployee rep­re­sen­ta­tive groups. The United Fire­fight­ers Union of Queens­land, Ru­ral Fire Brigades As­so­ci­a­tion Queens­land and the Queens­land Aux­il­iary Fire­fight­ers As­so­ci­a­tion will be con­sulted to cre­ate the laws, which State Gov­ern­ment will in­tro­duce. Fire and Emer­gency Ser­vices Min­is­ter and Mem­ber for Bund­aberg Jack Dempsey said the State Gov­ern­ment would move to au­to­mat­i­cally as­sume fire­fight­ers with can­cer de­vel­oped the dis­ease as a di­rect re­sult of their work. The new laws will ap­ply to all ur­ban, aux­il­iary and ru­ral fire­fight­ers in Queens­land.
