Biker rides a fine line in court

TYRON Terrance Wheeler may have had a “wheelie” good time on his “$500 piece of s**t”, but his actions have punctured his Christmas budget.

The Childers man was riding a motorbike on Thompsons Rd, Childers, when police stopped him and a friend about 11.30am on October 23.

Police said the bike had no registration plates, was uninsured and Wheeler’s licence had expired.

Wheeler failed to appear at Childers Magistrates Court on November 14, and when asked by magistrate John Smith for a reason said he had an “employment opportunity”.

“I had on and off work on a trawler and I’m helping to build a motocross track on a mate’s farm,” he said.

His excuse of asking a mate to phone the courthouse to let it know of his non-attendance didn’t wash with Mr Smith.

Wheeler was fined $1250 and disqualified from holding a licence for six months.
