DONNA Dun­can is fight­ing to keep lo­cal Aus­tralia Day ser­vices ac­tive in Childers, and has called for nom­i­na­tions for this year’s awards. Mrs Dun­can is the driv­ing force be­hind this year’s fes­tiv­i­ties, with a break­fast, cer­e­mony and awards to be pre­sented at the Cul­tural Cen­tre. Nom­i­na­tions are open for the awards, which will cover sportsper­son of the year (ju­nior and se­nior), quiet achiever (ju­nior and se­nior) and com­mu­nity event. Mrs Dun­can said live mu­sic and en­ter­tain­ment would also be avail­able at the event. “We’ve man­aged to get a jumping cas­tle for the kids, which we’ll set up at Isis Club,” Mrs Dun­can said. “It means par­ents will have to ac­com­pany kids across the road.” Sched­ule: Break­fast 7–8am (gold coin do­na­tion re­quired), with the cer­e­mony to start at 8.30am.
