Have phones on the ready
Kris Carver It’s important to think ahead and make sure you can stay connected.
TELSTRA has encouraged Bundaberg and Burnett residents to be prepared by having a spare mobile charger handy and keeping important numbers close on hand when emergency planning this summer for flood season.
Telstra Country Wide area general manager for Central Queensland and Sunshine Coast Kris Carver said locals should be prepared for natural disasters like floods and cyclones.
“We all love to get out and about during summer, but there is a chance things could take a turn for the worse and you need to be prepared for that,” Mr Carver said.
“It’s important to think ahead and make sure you can stay connected with loved ones during an emergency.
“Even if you don’t live in an area that’s at risk, there’s a chance you may be holidaying or driving through a disaster prone area, so all Australians need to be aware and prepared for what may happen.”
Telstra has taken steps to protect network infrastructure, and placed temporary network support near communities at most risk.
“We support at-risk communities and work closely with local governments and emergency services when extreme weather events occur,” Mr Carver said.
“We have a range of portable base stations on standby, ready to deploy to provide temporary telecommunications if needed after an emergency situation and our local teams will be quickly deployed to restore communications for our customers after a natural disaster.”
