WOOD'S OFF TO PURSUE INTERNATIONAL DREAM
Scholarship helps Hannah chase her hospitality dream
HANNAH Wood is on the verge of a life-changing move.
The Gin Gin 17-year-old might be fresh out of high school, but she could be a future star in hospitality.
As Miss Wood grew up she worked alongside her parents, who own and operate the Gin Gin Hotel.
The various skills she picked up during her years of experience fuelled her desire to go further in the field, and when an opportunity came up to further her study interstate there was no way she could refuse.
It will be no ordinary move to South Australia however, with the former St Luke’s Anglican School student the recipient of a $20,000 scholarship to the International College of Hotel Management.
Hannah set her heart on ICHM after Career Week in 2014, when she spent a week in Adelaide getting a taste of campus life.
“I love the industry and I knew from day one of Career Week that ICHM and an international career were for me,” she said.
Miss Wood is one of just three Australian students to receive a scholarship after her written assignment and panel interview rated highly in the field of 50 applicants.
Miss Wood will study a Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) and Bachelor of International Hotel Management at the campus for the next four years.
The dual degrees are made up of four academic semesters, 1500 hours of industry placement and proficiency in a second language.
There is every chance Miss Wood could end up overseas next year, as ICHM offers students paid industry placements for six months every year.
Since ICHM started in 1993, the learning institution has awarded scholarships worth in excess of $2.5 million.
