Upgrade to town entrance

Isis Town and Country - - News -

THE southern entrance into Childers will take on a slightly new look in coming weeks, with Bundaberg Regional Council upgrading the median strip between Bruce Hwy and Lions Dr.

A local contractor removed several of the low growing ornamental shrubs last week at the direction of council following consultation with Main Roads and local service club representatives.

Councillor Tony Ricciardi said the shrubs had become a high maintenance issue and had been identified as posing a traffic visibility hazard.

“The beautification of this area adjacent to Lions Dr had been undertaken decades ago by local Lions Club members and the trees and shrubs have certainly served their purpose as an attractive entryway to Childers,” he said.

“Our discussions with the service clubs regarding the removal and upgrading of the foliage has resulted in both Lions and Rotary offering to make financial contributions to any new plantings.

“Council plans to plant native trees at the site to ensure this enhanced entrance to Childers is maintained.”
