STRENGTHENING the community by promoting small business and sport is Duncan Scott’s goal.

The former dairy farmer fromWowan said mining might have brought prosperity to some, but they weren’t necessarily spending locally.

“Small business is the best business. My push is to try and promote local produce and generally support our businesses at home,” Mr Scott said.

Mr Scott is also passionately opposed to mining that affects water supply and is critical of the government’s handling of run-off from the Mount Morgan open-cut mine.

He said material coming down from the mine was polluting the Dee River.

He said farmers felt their concerns were being ignored and if elected he would promote collaboration while fighting for farmers’ rights against mining companies

“As a state member you can lead by example,” Mr Scott said.

“I would promote co-operation between all levels of government – local, state and federal – so we can all work together to get the best result for the people of Callide.”

Mr Scott has previously stood as an independent for the seat of Callide.
