Roadworks on Isis Hwy
Upgrades to Cummins Rd, Bonna Rd and Palomino Ave
MOTORISTS will soon experience safer travelling conditions on the Isis Hwy with a $3 million project set to kick off next week to upgrade three intersections.
Wide Bay Burnett district director Scott Whitaker said the Cummins Rd, Bonna Rd and Palomino Ave intersections would be upgraded as part of the works.
“At the Cummins Rd intersection, a dedicated right-turn lane will be built on the highway to provide protection for turning vehicles and the existing road surface will be repaired,” Mr Whitaker said.
“A right-turn lane will also be built at the Bonna Rd intersection, improving safety and efficiency along the highway by separating through and turning traffic.
“A section of road near Palomino Ave has deteriorated in recent years so while in the area, we plan to undertake works to provide a smoother surface and reduce future maintenance costs.”
Mr Whitaker said to carry out these works safely and efficiently, traffic controllers, single-lane closures and speed restrictions would be in place as required.
“Works will generally be carried out between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional works undertaken on a Saturday if required,” he said.
“Every effort will be made to minimise disruptions during peak times.
“Motorists are reminded to observe all warning signage when approaching the road works site and be aware of changed conditions, such as reduced speed limits and queued traffic, and adapt their driving behaviour accordingly.
RoadTek will deliver the works on behalf of the department, which are expected to be finished by April 2015, weather permitting.
