MEN & WOMEN
THE last off-season 18 hole bbb competitions was washed out on Tuesday so golfers now await the beginning of the official 2015 golfing season.
Saturday, January 24, is Opening Day with the first ball to be hit by a well-known young star of our club.
We hope it will not be the last time we see him starting the golfing year.
Peter Russo is generously sponsoring the two-person Ambrose, the traditional competition for the day.
The Ambrose competition provides the opportunity for members to invite friends or family to participate and have the opportunity to win a free membership if they have never been a member of the club. Club members will also have the opportunity to pay a tribute to Allan Royan and his family, Allan’s funeral and wake being held on Monday.
We are delighted that Sue chose the Clubhouse for the wake, a place with special memories for them both.
Peter Russo, Rodney Wagner, Geoffrey Jarrett and Paul Bartlett ensured that guests enjoyed this sad but special occasion.
Prior to the meeting at 11.30am there will be a short Special General Meeting to finalise the management committee for 2015.
It is crucial that we have a quorum for these important decisions and hope all members can attend.
Please make this Opening Day a great success with many aspiring golfers in attendance – a free membership is well worth winning! We look forward to seeing many faces – old and new.
THE Vets Opening Day follows on Tuesday, January 27.
The competition for the afternoon is the VIP Stroke over 18 holes, sponsored by the Robinsons, promising another great start to the year for the Vets.
As usual, the nine-hole Chook Run competition for Vets or non-Vets is on offer to enjoy.
From last week - the Isis golf course is at the moment a scenic and golfing delight – it gives much pleasure as you drive through its centre, almost as much as playing does.
The club welcomes visitors and of course is always looking for new members to take advantage of this historic sporting gem in the region.
One minor mystery – where are the doctors, bankers, teachers and other community members missing from the list of golf club members? Surely some are golfers! A repeat announcement – a short Special General Meeting (11.30am) prior to the game on January 24 to finalise the Committee for 2015, to appoint our auditor, and to offer a special membership.
Please be present in numbers.
ONLY a small number decided to brave the heat and humidity to play this morning and from the majority of the scores the heat got to most people.
The winner for the day was Mick Ryan with 33 and managing to lose 2.3 off his handicap, second was Bill Kirchhof with 34 losing 1.4 and third on a countback was Col Dennett.
The least putts went to Peter Macauley with 12 and Ray Burrows continued his fine form with the B Grade Approach on the 10th and the B Grade Longest Drive. Ray also holds the Golden Circle with a measurement of 2.43m and the rest of us have until March 29 to wrest it away from him.
Paul McCarragher took out the A grade Longest Drive and last but not least Bill Kirchhof took out the Men’s Approach on the 15th.
Next week we will play a Single Stableford over the Front Nine and hopefully the weather will be kinder to us.
Have a great week and see you on Sunday.
