Consultation needed

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion -

WHAT is the long-term plan for Childers? I was reading a recent edition of Isis Town and Country and noticed councillor Tony Ricciardi has announced Millennium Park is to be upgraded at a cost of $150,000. Fantastic, but where is the plan and, most importantly, where was the community consultation? Then again, we read that Lions Dr is to be revamped and replanted with a low-maintenance garden approach, including a name change to Rotary-Lions Dr. Then we have Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett pledging $300,000 for a therapeutic pool to be built within the Isis pool grounds. Well, goodbye to us ever building an aquatic park to include a 25m heated/ undercover pool on the grounds that have been put aside behind Crescent St. The original pool site was to be sold off to fund the new aquatic park. By building the new therapeutic pool on the old pool grounds, it will just eliminate that venture. Speaking to Stephen Bennett, he is in favour of the new site and that the community should decide. So come on, let us have a say! It is true that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail, and this could not be more true than right now. I am in favour of all the above items for Childers and it is fantastic we could receive this funding, if all pans out right. However, there are many people asking me the questions I have raised above. Please open up the channels of communication and consult on a weekly basis within the local papers and give us a look at the plans for each of the above projects before you make the decisions for our community.
