WOODGATE CELEBRATES LOCAL HEROES
THE Woodgate and District Residents Association was kept on its toes on Australia Day, serving free breakfasts to more than 140 excited celebrators from 7.30am at Woodgate Community Hall.
Guest speaker Theo Delaney, who has strong family ties to the region, spoke about his ancestry at the Woodgate Community Events-run event, before handing over to the announcement of the Citizen of the Year Award.
Residents’ association president John Trevor said Woodgate was a fabulous place to mark Australia Day, with a wealth of people gathering to celebrate.
“It was wonderful to see that the winner of the 2015 Woodgate award was the Woodgate Weed Busters, who are a group of dedicated locals who each week spend an hour of their time removing weeds and any rubbish from the gorgeous Woodgate foreshore,” he said.
“It is examples such as these that continue to make Woodgate such a wonderful place to live.”
Bundaberg Mayor Mal Forman said the attendees were “lucky Australians” to be able to celebrate in such a pristine location as Woodgate Beach.
“As a council, we want to ensure that every resident has the opportunity to celebrate everything that is great about our country and especially our region,” he said.
Mr Trevor urged local residents to join the association for its annual general meeting at the community hall on February 14 at 10am.
