Scouting for future scouts

Isis Town and Country - - News -

A SIGN-ON day is being held at Childers Scout Group this weekend.

In much the same way as sporting clubs hold a sign-on day at the beginning of each season, new scouts across the state will “sign up” this weekend.

Childers group leader Bob Edmiston encouraged anyone with questions about scouts to come along.

“The event is a great opportunity for children and parents to come and find out if scouting suits them,” Mr Edmiston said.

“There will be opportunities to experience scouting activities and talk to leaders and members about their scouting experiences.”

Scouts is a worldwide organisation for youth aged from six to 26 years.

It teaches social and leadership skills through challenge and outdoor adventure.

The program follows the school calendar year with activities held on weekends and during school holidays.

Scouts Queensland Chief Commissioner Kirsty Brown OAM said there were more than 15,000 adult and youth member scouts across the state.

“Scouting traditions have been in Australia for over 100 years and we have developed a strong, fun program based on the needs of today’s youth,” she said.

The sign-on will be held this Saturday from 10am–2pm at the corner of Gaydon and Lord Sts, Childers.
