CHILDERS Devils will field only three teams in this year’s junior rugby league competitions.

The Devils held their sign-on days last weekend in an effort to confirm numbers and teams ahead of the season.

President Scott Tomlinson said the move was designed to give players in age groups that wouldn’t field sides an opportunity to trial at other clubs.

He said the club would run teams in under-7s, 8s and 11s, but he sought at least three or four more players for each team.

“We’ve lost quite a few kids, but we have a few there,” Tomlinson said.

“I knew it would be a struggle as a lot of people have been turned off for whatever reason.

“In terms of those groups we’ll run, we’ve got a few people saying they’ll play, but we need to get them signed up.”

Tomlinson said it was urgent players signed as the club had to order playing kits and equipment.

“I don’t want to be caught unawares,” Tomlinson said.

“QRL (Queensland Rugby League) insurance has to be paid by the 28th, but we’ve got a lot to do between now and then.”
