THURS­DAY

A WILD car chase causes ma­jor dis­rup­tions to south-east Queens­land and New SouthWales high­ways.

It started at Ca­bool­ture af­ter po­lice iden­ti­fied a stolen car, and from there two-and-a-half hours of may­hem un­folded.

Three cars were hi­jacked at gun­point, a po­lice­man was run down and shots were fired.

The chase fi­nally ended at Tweed Heads af­ter po­lice used spikes to dis­able the car.

FRI­DAY

EIGHT peo­ple were lo­cated and de­tained by the Depart­ment of Im­mi­gra­tion and Bor­der Pro­tec­tion fol­low­ing a crack­down on un­law­ful non-cit­i­zens and il­le­gal work­ers in the Bund­aberg area.

SATUR­DAY

FOR­MER Bund­aberg mayor and state mem­ber Nita Cun­ning­ham dies aged 75.

Ms Cun­ning­ham served as mayor from 1991-1998, be­fore she was elected as Mem­ber for Bund­aberg in 1998.

She held the seat un­til skin can­cer trig­gered her res­ig­na­tion in 2006.

She died just six days shy of her 76th birth­day.

SUN­DAY

A DAD head­ing to Bris­bane to see the birth of his baby ended up in hos­pi­tal with whiplash be­fore mak­ing it out of Bund­aberg.

The crash hap­pened at the in­ter­sec­tion of Bour­bong and Bingera Sts.

Not long af­ter crews ar­rived an­other crash oc­curred.

On­look­ers de­scribed the sec­ond in­ci­dent as be­ing caused by “rub­ber-neck­ing”, with one ap­pear­ing to be fo­cused on the first crash.

MON­DAY

JA­PANESE na­tional Tadashi Naka­hara, 41, is fa­tally at­tacked by a great white shark at Bal­lina.

Mr Naka­hara had been living and work­ing in Bal­lina, but died af­ter he was at­tacked while surf­ing at Shelly Beach at about 10am.

The shark re­spon­si­ble is es­ti­mated as be­ing be­tween three and four me­tres long.

TUES­DAY

A KEP­NOCK store claims they’ve lost busi­ness due to rules im­posed by a lo­cal school.

Kep­nock High di­aries said stu­dents were “not per­mit­ted to be at lo­cal shops be­fore, dur­ing and af­ter school”.

WED­NES­DAY

EURO­VI­SION an­nounces Australia will com­pete in this year’s grand fi­nal.

The popular singing con­test cel­e­brates its 60th an­niver­sary this year, and it will be the 30th year SBS have tele­vised the ex­trav­a­ganza.
