Juniors impress in track and field
LAST Friday night’s club night highlighted some amazing athletic talents from juniors and seniors alike.
Watched on by Tiny Tots Piper Bartlett, Annabella Lemon, Nicholas Haggett, Charlie Richards, Vinnie Vella, Shantara McAuley, Charli Murton and Cayden Muggeridge, under-12 Jackie Freshwater’s four personal bests from five events top-scored for the night.
Freshwater had PBs in high jump (+4cm), javelin (+1.34m), 200m (-0.7s) and 800m (-6.0s).
Age group team member Jake Scotney scored three personal bests in 200m (-1.4s), 800m (-6.6s), and produced one of the major highlights for the night with his superhero-like 14.5m javelin throw – an astonishing 5m improvement.
The second highlight was on the track from young U8 Danielle Adamson, who continues to improve in most of her events each week.
This week Adamson had PBs in three of her four events: 60m, 200m (-5.0s) and shot put (+0.70m).
U11 Lou Eborall took lessons from team member Beth Johnson scoring three personal bests in 200m (-0.1s), javelin (+0.71m) and 3cm gain in high jump.
Other athletes who continued to improve as the season nears its end with two personal bests include U6 Saskia Bassett, U7 Ella Bartlett, U8 Samuel Murton, U9 Joey Vella and U14 Jenny Freshwater.
With only two club nights remaining before the State Championships in Brisbane, qualified athletes look forward to a special weekend training session at Woodgate Beach.
