THE life and de­signs of Florence Broad­hurst were cel­e­brated in an Ex­hi­bi­tion of El­e­gance at the Mt Perry Art Gallery this month.

Born in Mt Perry in 1899, this flam­boy­ant and ec­cen­tric designer, fa­mous for her tex­tile and wall­pa­per de­sign, es­tab­lished her em­pire at age 61.

She worked ac­tively un­til her death in 1977. She was 78.

This el­e­gant ex­hi­bi­tion is the brain­child of Pat Smith, cu­ra­tor of the Mt Perry His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety, with Patty Klaassen from the Mt Perry Art Group Inc and with sup­port from Sig­na­ture Prints.

The ex­hi­bi­tion is open un­til Easter Sun­day (April 5) at the gallery, Pat Au­gus­tine Cul­tural Cen­tre, Heusmann St, Mt Perry. Open­ing times are Tues­days and Fri­days from 9am–noon and Wed­nes­days and Thurs­days from 1–4pm.

The gallery is closed Good Fri­day, but will open Easter Satur­day and Sun­day from 10am–4pm. Phone 0407 699 894 for more.
