Wait time axe appalling

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion -

LABOR’S move to axe the LNP’s hugely successful Wait Time Guarantee is simply appalling. Under the Wait Time Guarantee initiative, if hospitals and health services can’t provide treatment within the medically recommended time, patients are offered the next available appointment in a public or private hospital in the state at no cost to the patient. The results of this Wait Time Guarantee initiative speak for themselves – more Queensland patients are getting elective surgery on time. The figures show that the LNP dramatically reduced the number of patients waiting

longer than medically recommended for their surgery. In February, the first month of the Wait Time Guarantee, the Bundaberg Hospital posted outstanding results, with 100% of patients receiving their surgery on time across all categories – urgent, semi-urgent and non-urgent. I cannot understand why Labor would want to scrap Australia’s first surgery guarantee, particularly when it is already delivering for patients. To top it off, now the Health Minister has scrapped the LNP’s fully costed commitment to fund a heated hydrotherapy pool for the Childers community. I am bitterly disappointed by the Health Minister’s lack of regard for this community. It is blatantly clear he is playing politics with the well-being of patients. The Health Minister has turned his back on the Childers community, and I will stand up with this community to fight for the health services you deserve. You will not be ignored.
