Isis Town and Country - - Sport -

GIN Gin Hawks enjoyed an opening round victory when the Northern Districts Rugby League season kicked off with a blockbuster at Miriam Vale.

The Hawks beat an undermanned Avondale outfit 44-30 while the Magpies impressed home fans with an 88-0 thumping of Agnes Water.

NDRL’s Robert Redfern said Agnes Water had performed well at times but had lacked the size to compete with Miriam Vale’s monster pack.

The program also featured the Intrust Super Cup round two clash between CQ Capras and Souths Logan with the Magpies scoring an impressive 48-12 win.

Burnett Heads Cutters played a trial game against a Tannum Sands composite side that included several representative players.

The Cutters were thumped 52-0 but the side will only improve as the season continues. Fixtures :Gin Gin Hawks v Agnes Water Marlins;
