THEY had to work hard for it, but Gin Gin Hawks were happy to leave the Hawk’s Nest with a win over newcomers Burnett Heads Cutters.

Coach Shane Blair lamented the amount of mistakes his players made with ball in hand, but said he was happy to take the two competition points.

“It wasn’t the best game and we’ll have to work on a few things,” he said.

The major difference between the sides was Gin Gin’s sizable interchange, led by big unit Joel Tanna.

“It’s definitely good to have that size,” Blair said.

“I think Danny Moran and Mathew Card had great games. Mat was great in defence and Danny was in everything.”

Gin Gin hosted the second round Northern Districts Rugby League fixtures after concerns South Kolan would have to forfeit their home game.
