PCYC emergency service cadets have added another achievement to their long list after they won silver at the State Youth Volunteer Games in Brisbane.

Johnathan Newsome, Danni Morris, Kirrili Schimpf and Brianna Lee represented Childers against teams from Surf Life Saving, Rural Fire Services and other volunteer groups across the state.

SLS ended up with the gold, but local co-ordinator Rhy Baker said it was an outstanding effort from the locals.

“They’re very proud of themselves and they’ve done us proud,” she said.

This competition involved four sections:

■ A presentation to explain who and what they and their emergency service is, and their achievements;

■ A first responder’s challenge, that pitted the group in a real-life situation and put their training to the test;

■ A series of mini games based on teamwork and trust, and;

■ A series of different challenges in which they formed four-person groups with members from other services to compete.
