For­mer Gin Gin High stu­dent awarded UQ schol­ar­ship

FOR­MER Gin Gin State High School stu­dent Cas­san­dra Min­gin has been awarded a schol­ar­ship at Em­manuel Col­lege on the strength of earn­ing a Uni­ver­sity of Queens­land Ex­cel­lence Schol­ar­ship.

Ex­cel­lence schol­ar­ships are awarded to OP 1 ap­pli­cants who demon­strate out­stand­ing aca­demic, lead­er­ship and-or com­mu­nity ser­vice achieve­ments dur­ing their se­nior sec­ondary stud­ies and want to study at UQ.

Em­manuel Col­lege is one of 10 col­leges within the UQ cam­pus.

It has awarded more than $460,000 worth of schol­ar­ships and fi­nan­cial sup­port for stu­dents this year.

Ac­cord­ing to prin­ci­pal Ste­wart Gill, Em­manuel is keen to wel­come stu­dents of Cas­san­dra’s cal­i­bre to its com­mu­nity.

“Em­manuel has a pol­icy of of­fer­ing a place to any stu­dent awarded a UQ Ex­cel­lence or Merit Schol­ar­ship,” Pro­fes­sor Gill said.

“UQ awards th­ese schol­ar­ships to aca­dem­i­cally high-achiev­ing stu­dents who can also demon­strate out­stand­ing lead­er­ship or sig­nif­i­cant com­mu­nity ser­vice achieve­ments.’’
