629 drivers facing fines
EASTER ended badly for 629 of the region’s motorists who were busted for speeding on Monday.
Mobile radars nabbed 322 speedsters, and fixed cameras snapped 307 on Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Fraser Coast, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Mackay roads on Monday.
Central region police logged 4746 hours on the job during the Easter road safety campaign that kicked off on Thursday evening and ended at midnight on Monday.
During the Easter break, one person died on the region’s roads; 31 people were injured; 82 people were caught drink-driving from 25,611 random breath tests; 3001 drivers were caught speeding; and 75 people were caught without seatbelts.
