MEN AND WOMEN
THE expected showers did not deter some members who were determined to play the BBB plus B (for Bunny) holiday single stableford competition. Fortunately not one drop of rain spoiled their afternoon although the heavy conditions made play difficult for some players.
Blake Dowling played under par to record 39 points, a score which included an eagle on the par 4 15th hole. One point further back and the clubhouse leader for quite some time was Robyn Robinson, followed by Clinton Dowling on 36, Bob Champney on 35, Dave Robinson on 33 and Ray Walker on 32.
John Hinton won best nine holes with 20 points, while Blake also won the approach on 1&10 (0.1m), with Dave Robinson landing his second shot in the hole to win the approach on 4&13.
The day closed in a convivial atmosphere with a reminder to back up on Monday afternoon for a repeat performance.
Easter Monday proved warm and sunny and welcomed a select group to another BBB plus B single stableford competition, with some outstanding performances.
In particular, visitor and former club member Chris Crouch and current club champion Blake Dowling each scored three under par 67s, just one above the course record, both currently sharing the record of 66. Chris managed to record 42 points to win the competition, while Blake was edged out of runner-up on a countback by Robyn Robinson with 40 points, her gross score being her best ever.
Clinton Dowling claimed the next rundown after Blake with 35 points on a countback from Ken Albion who managed to win best nine with 21. Clinton also won the approach, his second shot in the hole.
Another pleasant afternoon’s golf and socialising, in spite of some intense rivalry to win the ticket.
Next Saturday is Monthly Medal day for April – see you there for the 12.30pm hit-off and a reminder to bring a plate, please.
