THERE are two petitions concerning the people of the Isis before the Queensland State Parliament. These are a petition requesting the reinstatement of the funding for a hydrotherapy pool and a petition requesting the retention of council divisions and divisional councillors in the BRC area. These petitions are sponsored by Stephen Bennett MP and the Isis District Residents and Ratepayers Association. The hydrotherapy pool petition is going well. We held a well-attended protest march down Churchill St, with plenty of blue balloons and loud chorusing of “What do we want …?” Both the e-petition and paper petitions are growing well in number. The petition supporting the retention of divisional councillors is not going quite as well. I would urge all Isis residents to sign this petition, because if the way the council is elected is changed we will no longer have one councillor who speaks for the Isis. Instead, we could find that there are eight councillors, all of whom are from Bundaberg city. I would like to thank Debbie and Trevor for allowing us to have a table at the markets this month. This provided many people the opportunity to sign the paper petition forms. Please note that you do not have to look for people with paper petitions to sign. Both petitions can easily be signed online. To do this, go to www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/e-petitions and click Reinstate funding for Childers Hydrotherapy Pool and Divisional representation in Bundaberg Regional Council. Sign both petitions. These are both very important.
