A MARYBOROUGH man caught driving while unlicensed has earned himself a $1200 fine and a further two-year disqualification.

Kail John Seth Weil fronted Childers Magistrates Court on Friday, April 17, after he was caught driving unlicensed on the Bruce Hwy at Apple Tree Creek on February 16.

He was originally required to appear on March 13, but Weil said he simply “forgot” to show up and instead went to work.

It was alleged police responded to complaints about a green Jeep Cherokee wagon, and mobile patrols found the vehicle at a service station.

Weil, the driver, provided his licence but subsequent checks found it was disqualified until March.

Weil said his female passenger had driven from Gin Gin, but he took control of the vehicle when she began to tire. He told the court he regretted his decision, and admitted they should have simply stopped on the side of the road.
