Police swoop on unit
SCENES of Crime have swooped on a unit in Takalvan St as police continue to investigate the alleged torture of a 29-year-old man in Mt Perry last month.
Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Hildred said Bundaberg police joined officers from Brisbane as they spent yesterday examining the unit.
“As a result of investigations made by detectives yesterday (Monday) afternoon, this morning (Tuesday) a secondary crime scene has been declared at an address at Takalvan St,” he said.
“Two men are assisting police with their inquiries at this stage and a number of statements are being taken.
“Neighbours at the address – the units at Takalvan St, are also being canvassed in relation to any information that they might have in relation to the torture of the man at Mt Perry between March 20 and March 28.”
Det Snr Sgt Hildred said police were investigating whether more than one person was involved on the alleged assault.
“The information received by detectives is that a man was (allegedly) assaulted by a number of persons,” he said.
“At this stage there are two men detectives are looking at for being responsible for the assault.
“The assaults are believed to have occurred at the Takalvan St units and also at the address at Mt Perry that police have already canvassed during the week.
“Officers from Bundaberg Scenes of Crime have attended the scene as also have officers from the Brisbane Scientific Unit.”
Det Snr Sgt Hildred urged any neighbours who might have any information to come forward and contact police.
“Police are calling for any witnesses who may have heard something at the units at Takalvan St, or alternatively the address at Mt Perry,” he said.
Det Snr Sgt Hildred said they were still investigating the reason behind the alleged assault but confirmed the alleged complainant and his alleged attacker where known to each other.
On Monday, 32-year-old Kepnock man Brett Spies appeared in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, deprivation of liberty, torture and acts intended to maim/disfigure or disable.
He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody. Anyone with info can phone 4153 9111.
